Seeing the five members of Cinema Bizarre on TV during the pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest was an extraordinary experience. And even if you got the feeling that everyone involved had fun, you somehow concluded that Cinema Bizarre are actually too good for such kind of mainstream event. This band still deserves a better audience, which will most certainly attend to the new live dates in April. Nevertheless, the band has quite a lot to tell of this TV thing. And of much more...
Rockoon: Which memories of the pre-selection of the Eurovision Song Contest will you keep?
Shin: The pyro effects on stage, situated very closely behind me!
Yu: That the food at the hotel wasn't too tasty. (grins)
Kiro: It was a lot of fun even if it was all a bit stressful at times! I will always remember it for sure!
Strify: I found it all very exciting! It was the first really big TV show we participated in, ever, and it was quite fun to follow everything (that happens) behind the scenes. Furthermore, I will definitely never forget my laryngitis. I had problems with my voice days before the show already and thought I just had just come down with a flu. One day before the show we called a doctor who prescribed me cortisone. The dress rehearsal was really lousy and I couldn't have performed without cortisone.
Luminor: It's been a very turbulent time and a quite memorable event... It's been fun to see what's happening behind the scenes. We only got to watch it (on TV) so far. And we came to think that we would have never pictured ourselves at the Eurovision Contest before.
Are you very disappointed you didn't win? Or are you rather just excited that you got to take part in it?
Luminor: Well, not necessarily disappointed... It was great, somehow, to see the people in the front row shocked and speechless after our performance.
Strify: I'm not disappointed at all. I didn't take the whole thing seriously from the beginning – it's been nothing but a funny idea, a way to bring a little Rock into an event regarded as being oldfashioned. Actually, I'm quite glad we do not have to go to Belgrade, since I'm convinced that this weird turkey will win this year. And I prefer losing to the No Angels than to a Techno Turkey.
Kiro: I haven't been disappointed at all, it's been a lot of fun to take part in it and I think it's something one shouldn't take too seriously. (grins)
Shin: It's been very exciting; at some point, I was so nervous, it got me in a bad mood. But standing on stage and rocking for old grannies was a lot of fun.
Yu: I'm a bad loser, but nevertheless, I liked taking part in it.
Thomas Hermanns, the host, declared that, if he had any sons, they should look like you guys. Do you consider this a compliment?
Strify: Since we got to meet him a bit during rehearsal, I know it is to be considered a compliment. (grins)
Luminor (laughs): Well, I liked this statement a lot; on the one hand it was wonderful self-mockery on his part, on the other – why not, it's not that you're always desired as a son...
Yu: If he happens to like his sons, yes please. (laughs)
Kiro: I do consider it a compliment...
Shin: Sons who look like we do and drink "Manga Coke"... The question rather is: Why doesn't he have sons!?
Let's stay on the subject, "sons". Did you have a very hard time at home due to your style? Didn't you get into fights with your parents?
Shin: No. (grins)
Strify: Isn't that normal? Don't parents always find something their children shouldn't do or could do better? That's what they're here for – even if they're not always right. I always was my own man, though, and knew what I could get away with and what not. My dad did have an issue with my using kohl for the first time. I managed to convince him, though, that there are things much worse and that he should be more open to the unknown. People in my class happened to be stoned every weekend, while I simply liked to have a different styling. He happened to catch my drift pretty soon.
Kiro: When I used kohl for the first time ever, my mom did give me a funny look and didn't like it that much, but that blew over after a while! Apart from that, we never had any arguments!

Yu: I happened to fight a lot with my parents because of my style. Whenever I had to go to school, they wanted me to remove my make-up or nail polish. Pretty much annoying. Anyway, one day they put up with it; I doubt they like it now, though. (laughs)
Luminor: Everything was basically only related to my father. We had our first severe arguments when I started to grow my hair long when I was about ten years old. My mother has been backing me and everything I am and do all the way. I could always rely on her.
And are you completely sure that, if you should happen to have children of your own later, you would react easily towards their style?
Yu: Never! (laughs) Oh well, I think I'd be a bit more tolerant than my parents. Sometimes, I even picture in my mind how my children could look like...
Kiro: Definitely, I'd never restrict my child so much!
Shin: They should develop their own style the way they want to.
Luminor: I will most probably never have children, I guess.
Strify: Well, I'd definitely have a problem if my child were fat and wore clothes that are too tight. Style as such wouldn't be a problem for me, rather the way the child behaves. I would for sure develop a parental protective instinct.
And wouldn't there possibly be a limit of sorts? If, for example, it would be hip for girls to go topless in summer? How would you try to talk your daughter out of this?
Yu: I would't want a slut for a daughter! This kind of nice insight should be held back for the person you would, for example, like to sleep with. In addition, this would drive the guys crazy and short-distance traffic were in danger. (laughs)
Luminor: Hard one! I mean, I'd think for myself: „Okay, if she wants it, I'll let her try this out too.“ But my feeling of aesthetics would be bothered! I'd find it nothing more than tacky and that's something I cannot stand at all.
Kiro: That's something else, of course, you don't always have to go with the flow and do what others do! You need to find your own style, no matter if it's hip or not!
Strify: There will never be such kind of trend, and if, my child will be a boy.
Okay, back to reality. You've all been living in Berlin for quite a while now. Is there something in particular that you like about this place?
Luminor: Very little, unfortunately, I feel that Berlin is very anonymous, indifferent... and very cold.
Kiro: I love this place a lot, I settled in no time! I like living in the city. As soon as you leave your home, you have everything spread right in front of you; there are many possibilities to go out and have fun!
Yu: Berlin has its own special charm. I've only been away for a day, and when I came back today, I was really glad to be back. I really like cities because you don't feel so isolated and have everything you need at your fingertips.
Strify: It would have taken me a long time to settle if we hadn't moved here together. This place is merciless and rather indifferent. Nevertheless, I like it here at the moment. Shopping opportunities are great, so are places to party. I like Potsdam Square by night, because it has a very special meaning to me. And I found good friends here.
Shin: I always used to live here and all my memories center on this place.
Is there anything else you don't like about this city?
Kiro: Sometimes it's irritating, I happen to get lost when I'm on my own, especially when I take the underground, even if the whole system isn't too hard to figure out. It's just, I am a bit disoriented at times!
Yu: Right now it's the fact that the underground is on strike... You have to spend way too much money on taxis!
Shin:Nothing – I like Berlin just the way it is.
Strify: Berlin's got a shit problem. There's shit lying on the floor everywhere.
